As a professional and highly experienced counsellor (with an up-to-date DBS), I work with adults, adolescents and children, on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, addressing various difficulties, with the aim of enabling progress to work towards desired goals. This is usually done either through face-to-face, telephone or online counselling sessions. I have experience running a peer supervision group, as well as offering individual supervision and consultations on Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

I offer mentoring to families and children who have ASD or other difficulties associated with autism. This can be for a block period of time, such as a four-hour slot. I can offer practical support in these sessions, such as recommendations of people and organisations they can contact, different forms of needs assessments, and up-to-date information on how the autism act is looked at on a local level (how local authorities are guided by the autism strategies of the autism act). As with my other counselling services, I can also give coping strategies and help to manage the condition. Please contact me for further details.

Additionally, I provide workshops and training to ‘service’ providers such as social workers and NHS professionals (see testimonial below), as well as people who have ASD and/or associated difficulties, and carers of people who have ASD and/or associated difficulties.

"As part of our staff development programme, Putneymead Group Medical Practice invited Mr Leslie Stanberry to give a presentation to the reception team to help them have a better understanding of the needs of our patients diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome.

The session was pitched at just the right level for the audience, and everything was explained clearly and with passion by Leslie. He was able to get the receptionists to spend a moment in time in the shoes of a patient with Aspergers, which I believe was something of a real eye-opener for most.

I feel the training was a great success and has helped the team provide a better level of patient customer service generally, as well as with patients with specific conditions."

- Doug Kershaw (Operations Manager, Putneymead Group Medical Practice)

"Leslie led a very special workshop at the London Therapy Foundation (5 Dee Road , Richmond) on Saturday, the 8th of March, 2023. I learnt a great deal, and the whole day was a great pleasure.

Those who attended the workshop came from a variety of different professional backgrounds, and yet Leslie ran the day in such a way that he was able to help everyone fit in and help find answers to their questions as they came up.

I would really recommend Leslie's workshop as a valuable source of information and an enlightening experience for all those who would like to learn more about the complex world of the Autistic Spectrum."

- Tony Novissimo (Director, The London Therapy Foundation)

Areas of Expertise

Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

I specialise in counselling adults and children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). I can help clients develop coping strategies, by recognising the trigger points of becoming overwhelmed and help to address related difficulties. Through this approach, I can also help develop social awareness skills and address prior trauma whether related to the ASD in question or not.

Apart from the skills I can employ as an experienced and highly accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor, my areas of expertise are in identifying the skills and attributes of ASDs, whilst working with, acknowledging and helping to manage the challenges for people with ASDs.

I can work with Children and Adults and have found my work to be particularly helpful for Adolescents going through the transition from childhood to adulthood.

I can also work with related difficulties such as other Spectrum Disorders. For instance: Dyslexia/Dyspraxia, Irlen syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) or Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).

Additionally, I also run workshops on ASD for service providers, carers of and those who have ASD. I am a recommended counsellor and trainer with The National Autistic Society. You can find my National Autistic Society profile if you click here: The National Autistic Society Services Directory

I also offer supervision, mentoring and consultations on ASD.

My Experience:

I have personal experience with ASDs, it has helped me develop an intuitive way of addressing and hearing my clients
